Need help with recording our band?

Ok so we are a garage band for now. We dont have the money for big
stuff you know? I have a downloaded cheap program for recording. I
have a guitar hero mic that im using to record us all. I mean it
sounds ok but its still shit. Im just wanting to know what is the best
way to record our music. And please think what i should do with the
drums i play. Its just so loud on the recordings and i try to tune my
volume down but it sounds like shit also. Just some tips would help
me. We are trying to get somewhere. And i will be putting some of the
stuff on youtube to get some people to hear us. Thanks
